FC GRONINGEN V AJAX ABANDONED AFTER FLARES, PROTESTS

Sunday afternoon’s match between Ajax and Groningen was abandoned after reported instances of crowd trouble.
Flares were seemingly thrown onto the pitch, which forced the game to initially be postponed.
The match score stood at 0-0 at the time the game was suspended in the first-half.
There were also reports that supporters had tried to force themselves onto the pitch, with extensive disruption caused.
While the match was initially suspended, it was decided that the game would be called off when it became apparent that order would not be restored.
Ajax travelled to Groningen hoping to make up ground on PSV Eindhoven ahead of them in the Eredivisie, while the home side are already relegated.
