Ben Gurion Airport Closed after Yemeni Missile Intercepted over Israel

The Israeli military claimed on Wednesday that it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen toward Israel. The airspace over Ben Gurion Airport was temporarily closed following the missile launch.

Israel says it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, as Ansarallah claimed multiple drone and missile operations against Israeli targets and maritime traffic in response to the genocide in Gaza.

The interception came just one day after the Ansarallah movement claimed responsibility for four drone attacks on targets inside Israel.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, airspace over Ben Gurion Airport was temporarily closed following the detection of the missile, and a Delta flight from New York was forced to remain airborne. The channel also reported fears of falling shrapnel.

On Tuesday, Ansarallah military spokesman Yahya Saree stated that four operations were carried out using drones, targeting the Israeli General Staff headquarters in Tel Aviv, the Hadera power station in the north, Ben Gurion Airport, and the Ashdod port in the south. He stated that all drones successfully struck their intended targets.

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth confirmed that fragments landed in central Israel but no injuries were reported. Air raid sirens were activated across central areas, the Israeli Home Front Command said.

Saree further said that Ansarallah forces targeted the MSC BY ship in the northern Red Sea using two drones and a cruise missile, accusing it of violating the ban on entry to Israeli ports.

He stressed that these actions are part of ongoing efforts to halt Israeli maritime traffic in the Red and Arabian Seas.

Ansarallah has framed its military operations as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel’s war—supported by the United States—has caused catastrophic devastation since October 7, 2023.

Ongoing Genocide

Since reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, Israel has continued its bloody aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding thousands of Palestinians.

Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 63,500 Palestinians, with more than 160,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.

In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians—mostly children—with hundreds of thousands more at risk.

Despite widespread international condemnation, little has been done to hold Israel accountable. The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
