Mason Greenwood rape charge decision ‘expected in days’ with Man Utd footballer on bail

Mason Greenwood will be told in a matter of days whether or not he will be facing rape charges after being arrest on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and making threats to kill

Mason Greenwood will find out in a matter of days whether he will face rape charges.

The Manchester United star was arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and making threats to kill back in February. He was held for three days before being bailed.

The Sun has now reported that the police are due to submit a report to the Crown Prosecution Service “imminently”. A source said: “He’s still on bail but things are at an advanced stage. The police and CPS are currently discussing if there is a case or not to bring against him.

“There comes a point where a decision has to be made and things have reached that point.” Another source claimed: “The police will submit their file imminently.”

United have suspended the player whilst the investigation remains ongoing. Greenwood’s bail will expire on 30 April but GMP confirmed to Mirror Football that could be extended.

Elsewhere, Greenwood has been removed from popular football video game FIFA 22 by producers EA Sport and Cadbury, one of the Red Devils’ partners, have confirmed they will not use Greenwood as part of any marketing campaigns pending investigation.

They said in a statement: “Cadbury does not condone violence in any form. Our Partnership is with the club itself and not the individual players.

“However, while these allegations are being investigated, any marketing or products we create with Manchester United will not feature this player. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.”

United also reaffirmed their “strong condemnation” of violence after Greenwood was further arrested. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established,” they said. “Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

Meanwhile, GMP confirmed Greenwood’s accuser has been offered “specialist support”.

Greenwood made his senior debut for United in March 2019 and he has made a total of 129 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals.
