ICC strongly rejects new US sanctions against judges, deputy prosecutors

The International Criminal Court (ICC) strongly disapproves the United States’ new sanctions against four of its officials—Judges Kimberly Prost and Nicolas Guillou, and Deputy Prosecutors Nazhat Shameem Khan and Mame Mandiaye Niang.

These follow earlier sanctions against other ICC judges and the Prosecutor.

Despite this, the Court remains committed to its mission of delivering justice for victims of international crimes and calls on its member states and supporters to stand by its work.

In a statement released on August 20, 2025, the ICC views the sanctions as a “direct attack” on its judicial independence, an insult to its 125 member states, and a threat to the global rule of law.
