Al-Ahly defeats Zamalek 3-0 in Cairo

CAIRO – Al-Ahly won 3-0 over Zamalek on Monday night at the Cairo Derby. Zamalek’s curse continued, as they have not defeated Al-Ahly in the league since 2007.

Al-Ahly entered the game with their regular attacking line consisting of Walid Azarro, Abdallah El Said, Walid Soliman and Moamen Zakaria.

Zakaria opened the score for the Reds only two minutes from the start, after he received a fantastic pass from Soliman to up the score to 1-0.

Zamalek dominated the game after Al-Ahly’s goal and they won a penalty in the 32nd minute, but their striker, Bassem Morsy, missed it.

Two minutes later, Al-Ahly led the score to 2-0, as Abdallah El Said scored from a penalty. Both teams failed to make any changes to the score in the rest of the first half.

Eight minutes into the second half, however, Azarro scored a goal, thereby leading to a result of 3-0 after he received another superb pass from Soliman, who was Al-Ahly’s best player in the game.

The referee sent Mohamed Ibrahim off ten minutes before the final whistle, after he tackled Ayman Ashraf.

Al-Ahly reached 39 points to top the league table, two points ahead of the second-placed Ismaily, while Zamalek stayed in fourth place with 28 points.
