Barcelona Preparing Next Step in Phase to Reunite With Lionel Messi

FC Barcelona will do everything possible to bring Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou when the 35-year-old’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June.

Mundo Deportivo reported on Thursday that before the Spanish club makes an offer to Messi, they intend to send their proposal first to La Liga as the Catalan side shows how it will be able to recover the Argentine.

The plan for Barcelona would be to offer the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner a one or two-year contract. If Messi were to sign on for two years, it would allow him to play in Camp Nou, which will be renovated, and be part of the club’s 125th anniversary.

Furthermore, the report specifies that Barça estimates that a return of the Argentinian would allow a gain of 25 percent on income for each season in which he will be present.

However, the information from the Spanish media outlet doesn’t reveal the salary Barcelona would be willing to pay, which is the likely hurdle they’ll need to overcome and have La Liga approve.

In a recent interview, La Liga president Javier Tebas offered a gloomy response when asked about Messi reuniting with Barcelona.

“Barça must take many financial measures to undertake Messi’s registration,” Tebas said. “They need lot of effort to make it happen. Today I don’t see his signing as feasible. But there’s a lot of time left, Barça can still make moves to get Leo.”

“We are still awaiting a feasibility plan from Barcelona. They need a big effort to make it happen. They can sell players, for sure — but they still have some players to register too.”
