Darwin Nunez is slammed by fans again and called ‘Lukaku’s twin’

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been mocked on social media following his frustrating display in a 1-0 defeat to Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday.

The Reds’ £85million record signing has become a major talking point among Premier League fans since his arrival from Benfica.

However, the 23-year-old set tongues wagging as he came off the bench to score a stunning four goals against RB Leipzig last week.

But rival fans have been quick to pile in on the striker after a compilation of Nunez’s worst bits during the first half against Salzburg went viral.

Titled ‘Darwin Nunez making easy things look impossible’, the video has already amassed 1.7million views on Twitter, while it has also received a number of replies and quote tweets.

The Reds have been shrewd operators in the transfer market and one rival fan believes that it was about time a new signing failed to hit the ground running at Anfield.

‘Liverpool are due a flop, they’re recruitment has been almost perfect for many years. Nunez could be a very expensive one, exacerbated by the loss of Sadio Mane. They could be vulnerable this season,’ they claimed.

One fan took to Twitter to question the Uruguayan’s tactical fit into Klopp’s side. ‘I’m a Liverpool fan but bruh in all honesty this guy is not good, even his body language is not it, his not tactical and don’t have that killer monster we were looking for in him,’ they said.

Other fans were quick to compare the striker to Chelsea flop Romelu Lukaku, as one supporter claimed ‘they bought Lukaku’s twin for 100m’, while another simply replied ‘Romelu Nunez’ to the video.

It was another striker that earned widespread praise after his performance in the pre-season clash with Salzburg.

Benjamin Sesko has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and netted the only of the game at the Red Bull Arena – prompting plenty of excitement among Red Devils supporters.

The Premier League is notoriously difficult for foreign exports to acclimatise, with numerous high-profile arrivals struggling to find their feet.

And fans fear that Nunez mights suffer a similar fate, with one remarking: ‘There’s probably a good player in there, I mean it has to be… they paid 100m for him. But my goodness he looks panicked, he rushes everything. He has the potential to be a meme machine in the premier league… and I am here for it!’

Another supporter stated that he would be shocked if Nunez ‘registered 10 plus league goals’ next season.

The striker enjoyed a prolific campaign at Benfica last term, netting 26 goals in just 28 Primeira Liga appearances. Nunez also scored six goals in the Champions League last season, including against his new side Liverpool at Anfield in the quarter-finals.

With Reds fans more than aware of the capabilities that the Uruguayan possesses, they are hoping that their record signing will be a roaring success on these shores.

And Nunez will have the opportunity to put paid to any doubts over his ability this coming weekend when Liverpool face Manchester City in the Community Shield at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
