Egypt, Qatar continue mediation efforts based on Witkoff’s proposal

Egypt and Qatar are continuing their efforts to resolve the points of contention in the way of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza based on the proposal of U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, allowing the resumption of indirect negotiations.
Egypt and Qatar, in coordination with the U.S., emphasized in a Sunday statement their intention to intensify efforts to overcome the obstacles facing the negotiations. They also called for all parties to support the efforts of mediators to end the crisis in Gaza and restore stability to the region.
This will lead to a complete end to the war and the commencement of the reconstruction of the strip, the statement said, highlighting the plan adopted by the emergency Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4, 2025.
The two countries also look forward to quickly reaching a temporary 60-day truce leading to a permanent ceasefire agreement in war torn strip to alleviate the unprecedented humanitarian crisis, allow the opening of the crossings, and allow the entry of humanitarian and relief aid, according to the statement.
