Leeds United Break Club record to sign Rodrigo Moreno for 29 Million Euro

Rodrigo Moreno cost Leeds United a whopping €29 Million which is the highest amount the club has ever paid for a transfer deal. The four-year deal the 29-year-old center-forward signs with Leeds would keep the Spain international at the Premier League club until June 2024.

Newly promoted Premier League club Leeds United have finally landed their first major signing of the summer. The club announced that they have signed Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia on Saturday, August 29, 2020.

The manager of Leeds United, Marcelo Bielsa has been very busy in the transfer market in search of players that would help the club to survive in the forthcoming 2020-2021 Premier League season which will kick-off on September 12.

For a player like Rodrigo Moreno to join the club this summer from a Spanish La Liga club that is always top-four contender, is a sign that the historic Premier League club means business ahead of their first Premier League season in 17 years.

In a chat with Leeds United official website, Moreno said: “For me I’m really happy and very excited to join the club, this is an important season for all of us, coming back to the Premier League.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their messages on social media, the club, the president Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta for their efforts.

“For me this is a new step in my career and I want to help the team achieve the goals of the season.

“Leeds have been working for almost two weeks on this deal with Valencia and from the first time Victor talked to me, I knew I wanted this new challenge with Leeds, a historic club.

“Of course Marcelo Bielsa is one of the best coaches in football at this moment, he has done important things at different clubs and I’m excited to learn from him, improve my football with hard work and teamwork and I hope we can do important things this season.

“My first experience of the Premier League was with Bolton in 2010, which was my first season in a top division and it was a nice experience.

“I was very young in that moment, nowadays I am a better player, a much more complete player than I was and I’m really excited to come back to the Premier League.”

As a new team that is trying to find a way to survive in the Premier League, Leeds United would gain a lot from the wealth of experience Rodrigo Moreno will bring to the club.

The 29-year-old Spanish international who started his football career at Real Madrid B team in 2009 before he moved to a Portuguese club Benfica in 2010, has played in the Premier League for a season while on a season-long loan at Bolton Wanderers during the 2010-2011 season.

Since 2014, he has been playing at Valencia where he won the prestigious Copa del Rey for the club during the 2018-2019 season. Before he left Valencia, the striker scored 59 goals and provided 41 assists in 220 matches.

So far in his international football career with the Spanish national team, he has garnered 22 caps and has scored eight goals from 2014 to date.
