The start of negotiations between the government and armed movements in Juba

Negotiations between the Sudanese government and the armed movements are taking place in the capital of South Sudan, Juba , today.

Lt. Gen. Abdul Fattah Al Burhan Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, arrived in Juba this morning for a one-day official visit to the Republic of South Sudan.

The visit comes at the invitation of President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan to participate in the opening session of the Peace talks between the government delegations and the Sudanese armed movements.

Salva Kiir met at the presidential palace in Juba yesterday with the government delegation for peace negotiations headed by General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

Direct talks between Sudan’s transitional government and armed movements will kick off on Tuesday as South Sudan’s foreign minister, Odd Deng, said .

The direct meeting between the Sudanese parties will begin Tuesday to discuss the file of security arrangements, pointing out that it is expected to sign a comprehensive ceasefire agreement and that the day will be of a festive nature.

The negotiations will be held in the presence of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abyei Ahmed, who recently won the Nobel Peace Prize, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta  in addition to  Egyptian president AbdelFattah Elsisi.
