Yemen has not only stood up for Palestine, but has proven its regional worth

With the actions taken by Yemen’s Ansarallah to aid the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the group has not only scored a blow against the Zionist entity, but has also proven, through its heroism, that it is a powerful regional actor that demands the respect of its adversaries.

In late January of 2022, Ansar Allah launched two drone and missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The first series of strikes came as a great shock, causing casualties in Abu Dhabi and affecting sites near Dubai, while the second attack came during a visit to the UAE by Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

What these two attacks did was send a strong message to the Emirati leadership that continued aggression against Yemen would carry a hefty price. Perhaps more importantly, however, the strikes proved the point that Western support would not deter Yemen from carrying out its national duties, and that the region had reached the point where the protection previously provided by the United States would no longer be enough to ensure the stability of the Arab regimes that choose to carry out the agenda of the West.

In early 2022, Ansar Allah also launched missile and drone attacks at a variety of high-value economic and military targets in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It quickly became apparent to the Saudi leadership that the capabilities of the Yemeni armed forces had significantly developed, and that a new equation had been established. By April 2022, the United Nations (UN) had stepped in and guaranteed a nationwide truce in Yemen, which did not completely stop all the violence, but did achieve relative calm and a cessation of major hostilities.

Although the conflict in Yemen is not widely covered in the West, and hence there has been little acknowledgement of this in Western corporate media, Ansar Allah had essentially deterred the Saudi-led coalition from continuing its assault on the country, dismantling the hopes of the US, UK and the Israelis that they would be able to install a puppet regime in Sanaa.

This context is vital to understanding the current predicament that is facing Yemen today. The Yemeni Resistance managed to successfully place a de facto blockade on the Zionist entity, by preventing ships from reaching the Israeli-controlled port of “Eilat”. Ansar Allah has seized and struck ships that have violated its orders in the Red Sea, which caused a crisis for the Zionist entity and has resulted in significant economic consequences. This crisis has now become that of the United States, which has so far failed to deter Ansar Allah from carrying out its national duties to meet the popular demands of the Yemeni people.

The US Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, recently announced a naval coalition that his administration has put together, in order to try and combat Ansar Allah’s actions in the Red Sea. In essence, Washington has launched a military intervention that was not called for by the American people, nor was it approved by Congress. This is significant, because the coalition could trigger a major military escalation in the region if it is to commit acts of aggression against Yemen, dragging the US into another war in West Asia. Such a conflict does not benefit either the American people, or even US hegemony, and only serves the Zionist Entity.

Although a number of Western naval forces had agreed to be part of the coalition, only a single Arab nation chose to join and that was Bahrain. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE have no part of this coalition, which represents a major failure for the American government. Bahrain as a nation is insignificant militarily, and its UK-installed dictatorship can have no real impact, other than being the token Arab nation to be used in order to claim that the naval task force is not a purely European invader coalition.

The major amount of pressure that Ansar Allah has been capable of applying, is now forcing the West’s hand in order to end the Zionist entity’s genocidal war on Gaza quicker. The daring attacks on the Israelis have also now forced the hand of the entire West to scramble to mount a response, with the clearly stated message that the blockade will end as soon as the aggression on Gaza does. Through an act of solidarity, Ansar Allah has bolstered its regional image and stamped its place in history, while acting as a significant thorn in the side of the US and Israeli regimes.

It is very clear that the KSA and UAE in particular are not looking for any American-led war that will engulf their nations in missile fire. They understand well the equation and that the US will not prove capable of ensuring their stability if tensions escalate. Therefore, it signals that the government that has been set up in Sanaa is today enjoying a new level of legitimacy through its deterrence equation. It is also the only Arab government that has taken the step to use its military in order to fire missiles against the Israelis, declaring it openly, in solidarity with the Resistance in Gaza.
