Aleksander Čeferin re-elected UEFA President by acclamation

The UEFA President will serve a further four-year term while there were also elections held for positions on the UEFA Executive Committee and FIFA Council.

The 47th Ordinary UEFA Congress was held today in Lisbon, Portugal, and the 55 member associations unanimously re-elected Aleksander Čeferin as UEFA President for a four-year term by acclamation.

Speaking ahead of his re-election, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said:

“Protecting this game is our mission. Our goal. Our purpose. Our raison d’être. We are elected, and we have a duty to set an example. We must never forget this. All of us.”

Elections for the UEFA Executive Committee

The 47th Ordinary UEFA Congress elected the following candidates for:

  • Seven positions on the UEFA Executive Committee for a four-year term

First ballot (absolute majority 28 – more than half of the 55 valid votes cast)

Laura McAllister (WAL) was elected for the reserved female member position on the UEFA Executive Committee for a four-year term, and Hans-Joachim Watzke (GER) was elected for one member position on the UEFA Executive Committee for a two-year term, both by acclamation.

Elections for the FIFA Council 

The following candidate was elected for:

  • A FIFA vice-president position reserved for the four British associations for a four-year term

First ballot (absolute majority 28 – more than half of the 55 valid votes cast)

Sándor Csányi (HUN) was re-elected for a FIFA Vice-President position for a four-year term by acclamation, following the withdrawal of candidature of Ari Lahti (FIN) prior to the election for this position.

Fernando Gomes (POR) was elected for an ordinary member position on the FIFA Council for a four-year term; and Bernd Neuendorf (GER) was elected for an ordinary member position on the FIFA Council for a two-year term, both by acclamation.

Constitutive UEFA Executive Committee meeting

Laura McAllister (WAL) and Gabriele Gravina (ITA) were appointed UEFA vice-presidents during the Constitutive UEFA Executive Committee meeting which followed the UEFA Congress, replacing Fernando Gomes (POR) and Sándor Csányi (HUN).

Annual Report and Finances

The UEFA annual report 2021/22, the 2021/22 financial statements and annexes, and the budget for the 2023/24 financial year were all approved.

Next UEFA Congress

The 48th Ordinary UEFA Congress will take place in Madrid, Spain on 8 February 2024.
