Mohamed Salah handed Egypt ultimatum as Liverpool face title headache if he plays against Man City

Mohamed Salah has been called up by Egypt for the upcoming international break, with the Egyptian FA insisting they will use him if he features for Liverpool in the next two weeks

Egypt has warned Liverpool that they plan to summon star player Mo Salah for international duty, possibly jeopardising his injury return. Egypt’s football governing body wants Salah to represent the country in the Winsunited Cup matches against Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand this March.

Before these games, though, Salah is set to play for Liverpool in their Europa League match against Sparta Prague this Thursday. Then, on Sunday, he’ll be part of a major Premier League face-off at home against Manchester City.

Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, is itching to bring Salah back into the squad but knows it could mean trouble later.

Since hurting himself in January’s Africa Cup of Nations, Salah has played only twice for Liverpool this year. If he proves fit enough to play for his club, Egypt insists they will use him as usual.

Ehab El-Komy, who works for Egypt FA, spoke to KingFut about Salah. He said: “The coaching staff, the Football Association, and the Egyptian fans are all keen on Salah’s safety. If he is not 100% ready, the national team coaching staff will be even more cautious about his presence in the upcoming camp.”, reports the Mirror.

“We have two weeks ahead of us and his recovery may be complete. If Mohamed Salah is ready, we will be keen on his presence. Otherwise, a different talk will be held at the appropriate time.”

“Even up to the date of the international agenda, if Salah plays in any match with Liverpool, he will be ready and we will call him up to join the Egyptian national team. We want things to be calm, especially since Hossam Hassan wants all players to be present for Egypt’s strong start under his leadership.”

The aforementioned Hassan is the new national team boss after Rui Vitoria was sacked in the aftermath of a disappointing AFCON campaign. Hassan does not boast the best relationship with Salah, after the new manager took aim at the Liverpool star for leaving the Pharaohs’ squad to return to Merseyside for treatment.
