Putin: “The country can be either sovereign or a colony”

Any state must ensure its sovereignty in order to claim leadership. If a country cannot make sovereign decisions, then it is a colony with no prospects. There is no intermediate state. This was announced on Thursday, June 9, by Russian President Putin at a meeting with young entrepreneurs, writes TASS.

“The world is changing, and changing rapidly. And in order to claim some kind of leadership, I’m not talking about global leadership, but at least in some way, of course, any country, any people, any ethnic group must ensure its sovereignty < …> Either the country is sovereign or it is a colony,” Putin said.

He stressed that the colonies have no chance of surviving in a tough geopolitical struggle. In his opinion, the colony is not able to make decisions, so it has no historical prospects.

Putin also noted that he did not want to name specific countries, “so as not to offend anyone.” But he stated that there has always been a geopolitical struggle.

The President also named the key components of the country’s sovereignty. Among them is military-political sovereignty, which is characterized by the fact that the authorities are able to make sovereign decisions in the sphere of domestic and foreign policy. The second component he called economic sovereignty. It implies development in basic areas without dependence on anyone, reports RIA Novosti.

Sovereignty is the independence of the country in external affairs and the supremacy of state power in internal affairs. In modern political science, the sovereignty of the individual or citizen is also considered.

Technological sovereignty is also extremely important in the modern world, Putin said. Another point he called public sovereignty, that is, the ability of society to unite to solve common problems, respect for history, culture, language and peoples who live in the same territory.
