Is Erdogan looking for a war with Greece?

In a report published on Friday, the magazine pointed to the statements of Greek officials that all options are on the table, while the United States is still absent from any mediation, while German Chancellor Angela Merkel is seeking calm.
American magazine “National Interest” said that the danger of a war between Turkey and Greece is stronger than ever. Because of the adventures of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The report said: “There has never been any friendliness between Turkey and Greece, but the risk of a military confrontation between the two NATO members has not been that high since the conflict on Cyprus more than 45 years ago.”

He added, “Although the two countries have reached the brink of the abyss in the past, Erdogan’s adventures and policies can now lead them to confrontation.”

The report pointed out that the tension between the two neighbors is due to two main issues, namely Erdogan’s decision to explore for oil and gas near the Greek islands; With the aim of finding a source of income to save his country’s faltering economy, and his endeavor to withdraw from the Treaty of Lausanne, signed 97 years ago, which drew Turkey’s borders with Greece, Bulgaria, Syria and Iraq.

The report pointed out that this trend by Erdogan may be due to ideological reasons, to control lands that were previously under Ottoman rule, and for economic reasons which are theft of natural resources from internationally recognized Greek and Cypriot areas.

He continued: “There is a personal reason as well, which is that Erdogan seeks to outrun the legacy of Turkey’s founder Kemal Ataturk as a victorious and unbeatable military leader .. Erdogan seeks not only to reformulate international law, but also to control the resources of hundreds of Greek islands in the Aegean.”

The report concluded that Erdogan, “like Russian President Vladimir Putin, has long sought to bolster his strength by playing deceptive roles with a number of world leaders who preferred to calm the Turkish president only, hoping that they would succeed in easing tensions in the short term.”

He concluded by saying: “They did not realize that Erdogan’s fiery statements are just a tactic, nor did they realize that yielding to the aggressor rarely achieves peace but encourages him to attack, and now if Erdogan insists on his positions, especially in the eastern Mediterranean, Greece will find itself forced to enter War, and if that happens, the United States should not take a position of neutrality, but rather declare that Turkey is an aggressor and its demands are illegal. ”
